Storytelling: Capturing the Spirit of student life at UID

STORYTELLING: When the Umea Institute of Design approached me to film and capture the social fabric of the school, I was thrilled to tell the story through video of what makes UID so unique as a design school. The goal of the video was to help prospective students understand both the social and academic balanced lifestyle at UID.

Here is a list I compiled about the many roles stories play in a design process:

Automotive Applications
The aim of this project is to explore the opportunities mobile devices have with vehicles beyond the use as a communication tool. Giving users an interactive way to discover and maintain the use of their vehicle for optimal performance.
Design Ethnography Research

The aim of this project was to research and uncover through Design Ethnography people’s motivations and goals. Experience Prototyping handles the application of suitable technologies for prototyping interactions. While developing products and applications there is always a place to simulate the interaction between the product and the user. These five weeks were about building the skills to prototype these experience to further the fidelity of a design.

This was a team project with my classmates to discover a new method of interacting and controlling the functions of an MP3 Player.

Bose GPS User Interface
The GPS interface project began with a graphics workshop, followed by product analysis and low fidelity prototyping, and continued with a workshop on GUI and Interactive Media. The final outcome was a branded GPS user interface.

Master Thesis Project
Acuity: Connected Vehicles & Mobile Interactions
his project describes the design methods of discovering mobile interactions within the context of a connected vehicle experience. The project titled “Acuity” focuses on revealing a richer understanding of how users interact with today’s content on both mobile devices and the in car infotainment system. The result of this design process should help find various design insights and concepts to help make next generation infotainment systems integrate mobile devices in more seamless ways.
Marbleous Game Design
Our first Interaction project of the year had us travel to the University in Southern Denmark to Collaborate with the Interaction Design Students there on a game design project.
Multi-Touch Application
Development
The goal of this project was to develop and experiment with a multi-touch platform. The project began as a look into adapting a analog surface game to multi-touch gameplay. The project initiated as a mobile flash application and was then moved to a desktop surface format.
